Serious fraud office probe Independent (21/6/01)

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has confirmed that it is to launch a probe into Independent Insurance, which went into provisional liquidation.

In a statement, the SFO said: “Following a referral on 18 June 2001 by the Financial Services Authority, the director of the Serious Fraud Office has decided to investigate the affairs of Independent Insurance Company Ltd.”

The SFO deals with serious frauds in excess of £1m.
